Mirage-

quirky – Mirage Expandable Wine Rack.

Flexibility and space is efficient in design. People now look for the ergonomics of the product. How we can approach and interact with the item. Being able to collapse and minimize 1/2 the size, This wine rack is a good design. The only problem is the material usage. This is formed up of solid woods. Each panel did not have to be solid. the inner panels could have initially became hollow.

Nevertheless, this item can be incorporated into my design and use space and interaction with my item.

Cork Winr Rack from Habitat

Cork Wine Rack.

What my continuing idea of insulation is by using cork. Cork is a material that gives the right amount of airflow to the bottle. Also This project can consist of used corks that are put together for on piece. This way, The corks can be recycled and don’t have to worry about spoiling your wine. This Item is not that very expensive and is durable. Its can also be formed into different shapes.

Spiral Wine Cellar was created by a Frenchman, Georges Harnois. He saw that many Modern homes did not have wine cellars and wanted to create something for the wine lovers.

My idea is that by using the natural insulation of the earth to keep the wines tasting great, We do not have to waste energy trying to keep the wines cool. Insulation got me thinking. To insulate, The item has to be able to breathe. What if I designed a wine cellar on the wall that represents a spiral which the air will pass through freely. What if i use a material that is cool to keep the wine from spoiling.

Maybe the use of Wool felt and a innerlining of a cotton which insulates better than most materials and fibers.

My hypothesis on sustainability of the wine rack is that These crates or anything that has to do with the storage of wines are reused and kept for decades. But this is pertaining to the use of wood. The unsustainable part is the use of raw materials like Iron or some form of plastics.

The reason for this is that Iron rusts faster than other elements. The reason is that iron is found in pure formations of Fe2 /Fe3 and this is why it reacts faster to Oxygen and other elements. Usually Oxides(Rust) are supposed to be a protective layer to not expose the rest of the metal, but Iron Oxides eat away at the metal and exfoliates. This can be a problem for durability and health.

Plastics Can be used for long periods of time because plastic only photo-degrades., but the process it takes to make and dispose of this material is so harmful to the environment.

French Vintage Wine Rack

I think the concept of sustainability started with the recycling of the bottles. This is an image of a drying rack for the bottles for refills. Glass making was dated back to the Phoenicians. The art of glass making was not common so many glass handlers make custom bottles for clients. I guess the idea still progressed throughout the 1800s because the glass bottles were not fully mass produced for the public.

This French Wine rack is very interesting because of its history and the orientation of the placement of the bottles which looks like a tree.

This is an example of the gravity concept I have researched about. By using the process of gravity, Many things can happen. Another Idea I had pertaining to this concept was using a Flexible but sturdy material which would have a hole large enough for the nose of the bottle to fit. After inserting it into the hole, you would twist the material where the material will be caught onto the grove of the nose. So initially, the bottle will be hanging.
